The Diameter of the Bomb
The diameter of the bomb was thirty centimeters
and the diameter of its effective range about seven meters,
with four dead and eleven wounded.
And around these, in a larger circle
of pain and time, two hospitals are scattered
and one graveyard. But the young woman
who was buried in the city she came from,
at a distance of more than a hundred kilometers,
enlarges the circle considerably,
and the solitary man mourning her death
at the distant shores of a country far across the sea
includes the entire world in the circle.
And I won’t even mention the crying of orphans
that reaches up to the throne of God and
beyond, making
a circle with no end and no God.

Yehudi Amichai is an Israeli, I was reading another Israeli response too.
It is the same everywhere-Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan or India. The bomb has become an easy answer to ease out one’s frustrations created by blind ideology and myopic religious and political leaders.
An out and out war damages the economy of both warring countries. A proxy war waged by one country on the other by aiding and training insurgents is a convenient ploy.
A war free world is only possible in a non-existent Utopian world.
You never know when the next bomb is going to explode and if you will reach home safely from work or end up blown to pieces or lie dead on some unknown table in some dark dingy morgue.
Violence is never going to solve problems, but then again non-violence too is not going to work in today’s mad mad world.
Hi bvn,
Nice blog and varied chains of thoughts that have been expressed with the right blend of humour and seriousness.
Great work.
