Cecilia Tallis: [in a letter] My darling, Briony found my address somehow and sent a letter. The first surprise was she didn’t go up to Cambridge. She’s doing nurses’ training at my old hospital. I think she may be doing this as some kind of penance. She says she’s beginning to get the full grasp of what she did and what it meant. She wants to come and talk to me. I love you. I’ll wait for you. Come back. Come back to me.

Robbie Turner: [voiceover] Dearest Cecilia, the story can resume. The one I had been planning on that evening walk. I can become again the man who once crossed the surrey park at dusk, in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life. The man who, with the clarity of passion, made love to you in the library. The story can resume. I will return. Find you, love you, marry you and live without shame.

Atonement, based on an Ian McEwan novel is as british as Keira Knightley gets. It is a highly watchable movie which does not put you to sleep even for a minute unlike “There will be Blood”, “No Country for Old Men” or “Michael Clayton”. It is a love story, and a story of crime and punishment, and Atonement.

Story : A thirteen year old fledgling writer, Briony, accuses her sister’s lover of a crime he never committed. He goes to jail and is enlisted in the army to fight in France. Finally Briony writes a final novel which is the Atonement for all the three of them, her sister, her lover and herself. The movie is the novel itself with a pin prick kind of cute twist in the end. Script is right here

Good: 1. There is one long continous shot in Dunkirk beach. One of the best I’ve seen till date.

2. Its a very nice story and the movie is so simple you don’t have to read the script back again. And still it makes you think.

3. Love story man, yeah the academy kind, like Casablanca. Its a very simple story said on a near epic canvas.

Bad: 1. Perhaps the performances were a bit like play acting

Oscar: The movie is Oscarish! Winning – maybe Cinematography, Original score. Nevertheless its a beautiful movie, you can watch it, take her along!
